The Carnival Committee and all SA orienteers look forward to welcoming you to the Aus3Days24, set in and around the Adelaide Hills, Rockleigh and Monarto/Murray Bridge.

All events take place in convenient locations barely an hour's drive from Adelaide. (The Monarto campsite is now at capacity.)A3D 50 1974 SM SACROP

The team at Orienteering SA, in particular Bridget Anderson assisted by Leila Henderson, have been working hard making clear and concise pathway promotional posters to use for new and current orienteering members.  We have made two posters focusing on youth members 0-18 and for adults as there are different pathways for each group.

We are hoping everyone can use these posters to help them understand where they can go with their orienteering.

For juniors their orienteering journey may begin with their families who are orienteers or through school and after school orienteering programs.  For activities to improve their orienteering skills and move to more advanced orienteering, they can participate in the Southern Darts (7- 12 years) or Junior Arrows (12-17) training activities. From here the more competitive may become part of the state schools team, or the Southern Arrows team (juniors 17 -20 and seniors) competing in National Orienteering League events.

However many may follow the same pathway as adults, by participating in local urban events, joining a club and depending on their level of activity, attend state bush events or in some cases interstate events. However the more recreational orienteers may participate in orienteering as a social activity, attending events with their friends and families, and other club members.

So both juniors and adults can choose the pathway that suits them, and take a more competitive or more social approach to their orienteering.  Whatever the pathway, orienteering is a “Sport For Life” as all ages can participate at the same time in programmed events.

Sprint2

Training and competition events are available from Friday 21 – Sunday 23rd Feb as the Adelaide Sprint Camp organized by our coach in residence Evalin Brautigam. Adelaide Sprint Camp will be a weekend full of orienteering training and races. We invite everyone to come out for all or part of the weekend. There is a lot happening so if you can’t do it all, then just sign up for the races. This still lets you compete for prizes. The highlight of the weekend is the Knock-out sprint on Sunday which is a series of 4 short races where you shuffle up or down groups depending on how you place. We will also be using SI-Air+ for all the races during the weekend, and even if you don’t have one you will have the chance to rent one for free. Full details in the event bulletin here, with the program as follows:

Friday 21- AM – Training 1 and 2 at Flinders University

Friday 21 – Evening – Final event in the Snap Sprint Series at Stirling

Saturday – AM – Training – Botanic Gardens

Saturday – Early PM – Training – Eastern Adelaide CBD

Saturday Evening – Competition Event – Semaphore Park

And for your assitance - here is the legend for Sprint maps

Sprint1

The final event of the SNAP Sprint Series was held at Underdale on 24th Feb. Underdale is a new map on the River Torrens Linear Park, and includes some new residential development. Not a technically difficult map, however course setting gave a lot of route choice options with the best not always obvious.

UnderdaleLongS

This is the 7th year of this series run by the Southern Arrows, this year the other 3 events were

Adelaide University – technical map with most complex route choice decisions
Mawson Lakes Uni SA Campus – due the hot evening the results here did not count for the series
Lochiel Park – mixture and park and new residential adjacent to the River Torrens.

Series winners were

Junior Short – Matilda and Lucinda Fogarty, Mitchell Stephens
Junior Long - Joanna George, Toby Cazzolato
Open Short – Jaquie Stephens, James Lloyd
Open Long – Meredith Norman, Angus Haines
Veteran Long – Zara Soden, Ben Cazzolato
Veteran Short – Marian Arthur, Clive Arthur

The series of sprint events ends on Sunday 4th March with the SA Sprint Championships at Tatachilla College.
