What's New

news

  • Last minute news re SA Long Champs:  Start draw.

Signs will be in place from the Bri Glen camp site (turn left as you exit onto Mallett Rd on Sunday Morning) and as you enter from Wonna Rd (turning East just after Whyte Yarcowie and travelling past the Hiles Lagoon). From the Mallett Rd/ Wonna Rd intersection travel  approx. 200m. Enter at the gate on the right side of the road (signed) and follow travelling North along the track  and then through gate following tapes and signs approximately to the east. (total distance about 3.5km) Please follow parking instructions

Please be aware that the ground is very rocky.  Wear shoes appropriate for this.

There will be unmarked animal tracks.  There will be holes in the fences, which can be used for access.  These are mostly marked on the map as breaks in the fence.  You may also be able to cross under the fences at some creek crossings.

Pre allocated start times have been assigned to all runners in the championship event.  Plan to be at your start at least 5 minutes prior to your allocated time due to the 4 minute start cycle being used.

There will be a 650m pink taped route to the start for courses 1-10 and a 500m yellow taped route to the start for courses 11-12.

All starts allocated to course 11 and 12 will be shortly after 10am.  Be ready to walk as a group to your start with a helper. The group will leave from Registration area at 0945.

Limited entry on the Day is available until 1130 on course 11, 9 and 7 only

The weather is looking as though it will be fine in the lead up to the event, which means that the track should be nice and easy for vehicle access in to the event assembly area. Please treat the farm track kindly and leave the gates as found. SA Junior team will sell drinks and toasted sandwiches at the Mulga Valley event as a fundraiser.

  • A reminder that entries for the SA Schools Relay Championships are due on Friday 17th Aug. Entry forms are available from the Schools Page
  • SA Champs Weekend 18-19th Aug: Burra. Entries are now closed on Eventor  for the SA Night Championships & SA Long Championships. Limited enter on the day/night courses will be available for both events. Scroll down for preview.
  • Don't forget to put your vote in for the course planners award for Marne Rocks & Pymton. Go to results for links.
  • The MTBO Score event on Saturday Aug 25th is cancelled and will now be available on Sunday Oct 21st run jointly with a foot orienteering event.

SA Schools Championships Report

on .

SchoolsChampsAssemblyThe championships were held at “The Paddocks” Para Hills on Monday May 21.  Yalanga Orienteering Club with the assistance of other clubs hosted this year’s event.

234 students from 28 primary and secondary schools competed over 12 courses. The map terrain was generally flat and comprised sports grounds, tracks, mounds, parklands, wetlands and suburbs. Only the harder courses extended into the suburbs.

The weather conditions were overcast but mild. A southerly breeze became slightly gusty late morning. There was no rain. There was ample parking space for cars and buses.  The veranda of the Para Hills West Soccer Club provided shelter for Registration and the Finish computers. The event went smoothly apart from a marquee upturned by a wind gust.

Competitors used Pcards. This year teachers on registering were handed a pack containing Pcards for distributing to students. Previously these were handed to students at the start. This seemed to work well saving time and labour at the start.SchoolsChampsStart

The courses were suitably challenging particularly for students who were not regular orienteers. The seven volunteers (“Pink Hats”) out on the courses assisted dis-orientated competitors. The majority of competitors completed their courses and good times were also achieved.

Congratulations to the following place getters.
